Special drive against illegal Poppy cultivation in Changlang

Changlang, February 15, 2020: In a continuous effort to eradicate drug menace, a special drive against illegal poppy cultivation has been carried out today in various villages under Diyun and Khimiyang circle of Changlang district by joint team of district Administration, Civil Police, IRBn, GB, Mahila Mandal and public.
During operation, as many as eight plots of illegal poppy cultivation measuring approximately 3.2 hectares with raw opium poppy weighing about 1535 kg were destroyed at Sompoi village under Diyun circle, and Longsang and Thamlom villages under Khimiyang circle.
Two special teams were constituted, one each for Diyun and Khimiyang circle. The EAC Diyun Jacob Tabing and SDPO Miao Tasi Darang led the Diyun team with Inspector P.K Kalita OC Diyun, SI R.K Yein, IRBn, civil police, GB, Mahila Mandal and public destroyed two plots of illegal poppy cultivation measuring approximately 1918 sq.mtrs at Sompoi village under Diyun circle.
Another team led by DSP Changlang T Tangha, Inspector C.A Namchoom OC Changlang with ASI L Bolok OC Khimiyang and administrative officers, IRBn, civil police and public destroyed two plots of illegal poppy measuring approximately 1050 sq.mtrs with raw opium poppy weighing 75 kg at Longsang village and four plots measuring approximately 29,450 sq.mtrs with 990 kg of raw opium poppy at Thamlom village under Khimiyang circle.
One case registered at Diyun Police Station where two accused were arrested and two cases registered at Khimiyang Police Station under NDPS act against illegal cultivators.
Earlier on February 12, 2020, Miao team destroyed around 450 sq. mtrs of illegal poppy at Namphai-II under Miao circle where one case was registered at Miao PS against illegal cultivator.
The entire operations were carried out under the overall command of R.K Sharma, DC and Mihin Gambo, SP Changlang.
