Changlang district bagged GOLD in Digital India Awards 2020

Recognizing the exemplary services and initiatives in digital governance, Changlang district, one of the remotest districts of frontier state Arunachal Pradesh, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 bagged a GOLD in Digital India Awards 2020 in the category “Excellence in Digital Governance – District.”

The Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented the Digital India Awards 2020 in the Awards ceremony on December 30, 2020 in presence of the Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology Shri Ajay Sawhney, the Director General, NIC (National Informatics Centre) Dr Neeta Verma, and other dignitaries. This year Digital India Awards were conferred through video conferencing maintaining the COVID-19 SoP guidelines.

The Changlang district Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav, IAS and the District Informatics Officer (Technical Director) Shri Radhe Hinda received the prestigious award through video conference from the Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind at the award ceremony held at Kolkata on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

Within hours of announcement of awards, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Shri Pema Khandu tweeted “Congratulations to Changlang district on winning the GOLD award in the category of ‘Excellence in digital governance – District’. He twitted, “Kudos to Changlang district for achieving a significant milestone in providing citizen-centric digital solutions.”

While presenting the Awards, the President acknowledged that it was the technological advances that helped us to ride through the darkest hours during the pandemic. “Technological advances, often termed as ‘disruptions’, helped us overcome the big disruption to a great extent,” said the President.

“India was not only prepared to minimize the adverse impact of mobility-restrictions but also utilized the crisis as an opportunity to march ahead in various arenas. It was possible only because the digital infrastructure has been strengthened in recent years, institutions offering lessons online is a live example of how education continued despite all adversities,” he said.

From the judiciary to tele-medicine, multiple sectors switched to the virtual mode. “For the government too, information technology was one of the most crucial tools to deliver a variety of services to citizens and keep the wheels of the economy turning,” he said. and urged to keep exploring innovative solutions for government offices in the paperless and contactless mode for the security and benefit of every citizen and will make administrative processes more eco-friendly.

The Digital India Awards platform honours exemplary initiatives and practices in Digital-Governance, every two years since 2009 by recognizing efforts by central ministry/departments, state governments and districts in designing citizen-centric digital solutions that bring government services closer to the citizens.

The sixth edition of the Digital India Awards witnessed felicitation of 24 teams across half a dozen categories that include Innovation in Pandemic; Excellence in Digital Governance – MINISTRY/DEPARTMENT (CENTRAL), Excellence in Digital Governance – STATE/UT, Excellence in Digital Governance – DISTRICT, Open Data Champion, Exemplary Product, and Jury Choice.
